A complete mold base project should include:
1) Reviewing specific application and proposed insert concepts;
2) Evaluating machine and facilities that will accept the mold base;
3) Design assessment of the final mold base system: it’s functionality and installation requirements;
4) Assembly and test of the mold base;
5) Shipment of the mold base to the moldmaker for installation of inserts;
6) Field assistance with start up, preventative maintenance and global spare parts support.
Plastic Injection Mold Base Functions and Structure
A plastic mold plate is any plate required to build a complete plastic mold, and all injection mold plates used for molds have the main requirements, they are :
1. Good corrosion resistant
2. Good Machinability.
3. Easy to clean
3. Good heat transfer.
4. Homogeneity of steel.
5. Easy ability.
6. Low Cost.
at the picture below you can see 3 plate mold base type with closed position, basically, 3 plate type injection mold and 2 plate injection mold have some main plate structure, see explanation about plastic injection mold construction type to understand more, explanation plastic injection mold parts and function below based on the number at those 3 plate mould pictures:

1. Fixed Clamping Plate or Top Plate
The fixed clamping plate or the top plate holds the fixed side of the mold to be attached to the fixed plate of the injection molding machine. At this plate will attach locating ring, eye bolt, and sprue bush.
2. Runner Stripper Plate
The runner stripper plate is only used in 3 plate molds type, the runner stripper plate`s function is to cut resin from the nozzle on top of the sprue bush and pull the runner by a runner locking pin.
3. Fixed Mold Plate or Cavity plate.
The fixed mold plate or cavity plate is used to hold cavity side of the plastic product, leader pin, support pin, Puller bolts, and Angular pin when slider attached.
4. Movable Cavity Plate or Cavity plate
The movable cavity plate or cavity plate is used to attach the core side of the plastic injection product, return pin, leader bush, and slider core if needed.
5. Backup Plate or Support plate
The backup plate or support plate is used to support the cavity plate, attach the hole for the return pin’s spring, and cooling channel when in cavity plate can not make it.
6. Spacer Block
The space block is mounted between the plastic injection mold`s movable clamping plate (bottom plate) and the movable cavity plate to give space and allow the ejector plate to move when ejecting the
part. the required length of the spacer block depends on the ejector stroke that is needed to eject the plastic injection molding product.
7. Ejector retainer plate
The ejection retainer plate is used to hold the ejector, Z pin, shoulder bolts, and give space to the ejector leader pin and support pillar.
8. Ejector Plate
The ejection plate pushes the ejector pins and returns pins, connected with ejector rods.
9. Movable Clamping Plate or Bottom plate
The movable clamping plate or bottom plate holds the movable side of the mold like spacer block, support plate, cavity plate, and ejector mechanism to the movable platen of the plastic injection machine.
