At about 95 percent of the time, dampened adapters only fail due to tool crashes. Otherwise dampened tooling will last for many years of use. In fact, a lot of the systems manufactured in the 1980s are still in use today.

To ensure silent tooling/dampened adapters always perform at their best, tooling manufacturers offer these six maintenance tips.
1. If the oil in a dampened adapter has become too viscous due to long storage or transportation in low temperatures, gently knock on the bar with a rubber hammer.

2. For optimum performance, clean all mating parts and lubricate with oil at least once a year. Lubricant should also be applied to the screws when needed.

3. Replace worn or exhausted screws and washers.

4. When assembling, ensure that the adapters are held correctly.

5. Always check the clamping when working with damping adapters and tooling tips.

6. Always use a torque wrench for correct screw tightening.
