CMM is constructed very differently than a machine tool, so maintenance requirements are also very different. Below, are some maintenance tips to help you obtain maximum life and performance from your CMM:

1) Install an air dryer with pre-filter between your air line supply and your CMM. These units take the moisture out of the air to protect the CMM’s air bearings.

2) Electrical power supplied to the CMM should be via a dedicated line with isolated ground. It also is recommended to have surge protection to avoid power spikes.

3) The CMM should be located in an area that allows free air flow around the unit.

4) A clean work environment should be maintained around the CMM whenever possible.

5) Keep the CMM clean; wipe as necessary with denatured alcohol.

6) Open CMM guide ways as needed to make sure all wiring and other components are secure and clean.

7) It is recommended that CMMs are calibrated regularly by a certified factory field service engineer.
